Different Types of Coffee and How to Make Them

A cup of coffee can help us get our day started. It is a perfect partner to almost every kind of food which makes this caffeine-containing beverage ranks, aside from water and tea, as the most consumed drink in the world. Its aroma and delicious taste is an effective energy booster that can keep us awake and alert until the day ends. Drinking coffee in the morning can help us improve our physical performance especially when we are under the weather.

The amazing facts about coffee do not end there. Aside from its health benefits, coffee can taste amazingly different from one kind to another. Wondering why? It is because there’s a lot of different types of coffee in the world which have its own individual taste. Those coffee lover among us are definitely familiar with them and probably have tried most of these types at their favorite coffee shop. However, for those regular coffee drinkers, you possibly hear these terms and, without knowing it, might have tried at least once.

To learn more about the varieties of coffee, provided below is the list of some of the coffee types and the instruction on how to make them.

Cappuccino

Cappuccino

Cappuccino is one of the most popular types of coffee. It is an Italian coffee drink that is similar to a latte and the only difference is that cappuccino is foamier and the chocolate powder is sprinkled on top. It is made by mixing espresso and steamed milk.

Instruction: The first thing we need to make is the espresso to give us bitter taste. Pour ½ cup of steamed milk over it to offset the taste of coffee. Without any big bubbles, top it off with a layer of foamy milk. If we want it to be thicker, we can use cream instead of milk to create a multiple layers as well as extra taste and texture. To finish it off, put a chocolate powder on top to give us a little sweet taste as we drink it. Approximately, we need 10-15 minutes in order to prepare a cup of cappuccino.

Caramel Macchiato

If we want to want to impress our guest by giving them a good kind of coffee which can be brewed in just 5 minutes, caramel macchiato is a perfect drink to serve. This coffee is similar to Frappuccino. The only ingredients needed are: cold milk, 2 shots of strongly brewed espresso, vanilla syrup, caramel sauce and a cup of large ice.

Instruction: Simply mix the espresso, milk, vanilla syrup and ice in a cup. Blend it together to create a smooth texture. Once we achieve our desired texture, drizzle the caramel sauce on top of it. Our Starbucks-worthy caramel macchiato is ready to serve.

Espresso

If we love dark coffee, espresso is the perfect type of coffee for us. It is a concentrated coffee made by pressurizing the hot water through ground coffee beans using specific extracting machine. It is served containing no milk.

Instruction: In order to make a perfect espresso, we need to fill the espresso machine’s reservoir with cold and filtered water. Turn the machine on to heat up until the machine feels warm. Next, we need to place the portafilter in the group head and, for a few seconds, run the espresso machine in order to boil the water and for the other parts of the machine to heat up. Grind a few beans and put the freshly ground coffee to the portafilter. Put the portafilter back to the group head and start brewing. Start infusion and, by 3-5 minutes, we can have a cup of espresso perfect to wake us up.

FrappuccinoFrappuccino

This kind of coffee is a signature drink of Starbucks blended with ice, whole milk and flavored syrup. It is topped with thick whipped cream that add the right amount of sweetness to it. In 5 to 10 minutes, you can imitate this Starbucks specialty.

Instruction: The first step is to grind the coffee beans finely and brew the coffee. Frappuccino taste best when the coffee is freshly ground. Let it cool for some time. Once it cool down, add the sugar, milk and syrup in the blender. Have it mixed for about 20 seconds. Once done, add ice to it and pour it in our serving tall cup. Add whipped cream on top.

Affogato


Affogato is an Italian dessert coffee that usually poured over an ice cream. It is made with single or double shot of espresso and vanilla ice cream. It is easy to prepare. Within 5 minutes, we can have this dessert con beverage which is an ideal drink for summer or after having our dinner.

Instruction: Add a large scoop of frozen gelato. Then pour a hot espresso over it. For every scoop of vanilla ice cream, use only an ounce of fresh espresso so that the ice cream will not be drowned. To make a perfect affogato, we have to make sure that we use hot and fresh espresso.

Americano

 

Café Americano is another type of dark coffee juts like an espresso giving us the same caffeine kick. However, this type of coffee uses espresso infused with hot water resulting to different flavor from the traditional coffee.

Instruction: Simply add hot water to a shot of espresso coffee. In a span of 2 to 4 minutes, we can enjoy drinking Americano.

Café Latte

Café Latte is perfect with slice of cakes or cookies originated in Italy. It is made with 1/3 of espresso and 2/3 of steamed milk which allows us to taste its creaminess.

Instruction: Make our espresso coffee. Pour a milk into a jar and shake the jar as hard as we can for 30 to 60 seconds in order to create a bubbles. Heat the milk up by putting it in microwave for 30 seconds in order to foam to rise up. Make sure to uncover the jar. Pour the espresso in a wide and shallow cup. Put also the steamed milk. Use a large spoon in order to hold back the foam. Once we are satisfied with the amount of milk we poured, much the foam next onto the latte. To sum it up, sprinkle a cocoa powder on top of it. In 5 minutes, we can now have our latte.

Irish Coffee

Irish coffee can mostly be found in restaurants rather than in coffee shops because of its alcohol contents. It is a type of hot coffee which consists of whiskey, double espresso and sugar with thick cream on top. It takes only 10 minutes to prepare this cocktail.

Instruction: Warm the coffee glass and put the whiskey. Then, mix it with sugar and hot double espresso. In order to dissolve the sugar, we have to stir it well. Once dissolved, add the thick cream on top of it. Our black coffee with a twist is ready to serve.

Café Cubano

This type of coffee originated in Cuba and is typical to the Cuban drink. This espresso shot is sweetened once brewed but twice stronger than the taste of Americano. It is also used as a base for other drinks and become part of Cuban daily morning ritual. It takes approximately 10 minutes to prepare this dink needing only an espresso shot, 4 to 6 teaspoon of sugar and a cup of water.

Instruction: Add the ground coffee from the dark roasted coffee beans to the espresso machine. Add sugar in a demitasse cup based on our preference on the level of sweetness. Normally brew the coffee and let the sugar caramelize and dissolve well in the drink.

Cortado

 

This type of coffee is a favorite beverage in Portugal, Spain, and Latin America. It is made with espresso and steamed milk to lessen its acidity. Unlike macchiato, the milk used in this coffee is little cooler the consistency is the same with latte. It can be prepared within 3 minutes.

Instruction: Simply put the espresso in the cup. Put a warm and frothy milk. Our cortado coffee is ready to serve.

There’s a lot of types of coffee that can be added to the list but the above mentioned are the most popular. Each of the type taste uniquely and definitely a must try. They can taste bitter or sweet. Sometimes, the type of coffee we will drink can get us tipsy. Regardless of our choice, a well-made coffee taste special when the coffee beans we will use are fresh and fine.
